Make Measurable Progress

We live our lives day to day, quite often hoping for a better life. More money, more comfort, a bigger house, better health, a closer family situation. Whatever your Thing is, it's a fair bet that if you were closer to reaching your desired situation or objective, you would be happier or better off.

Years back a coach turned me on to this rule:
Make measurable progress in a reasonable amount of time or make significant changes.

Let's look at that statement:

This word demands that You are the one responsible. Your actions, efforts, decisions and results determine the outcome.

Quantify those aspects of your plan which can be measured. How many, how big, how much, how far, did the job get done.

If it is not quantifiable, what is the standard? There are esoteric qualities that may be part of your objective. Look for the means of rating those immeasurable values.

Ideally, you are working towards an objective. Have you even got a plan? If you have not spelled out your objective, it is hard to make progress towards it.

'Reasonable Amount of Time'
We don't live forever. Whatever your project is, get it done. If you are not making measurable progress, how long has it been? It's easy to get stuck in place, happens all the time. At issue is STAYING stuck. Keep moving.

'Significant Changes'
It's not working. Try something else. To get out of the rut, you need to change your ways, and in no small manner. What will it take?
Go to school.
Get a different job.
Stop being an asshole.
Hire someone else.
Scrap the plan and start over from scratch.

It's up to you to determine the exact meaning and definition of these terms. It is certain that if you do nothing, nothing will change.
